Gluten Free Sausage Rolls
Pastry is the biggest thing that I think was missed by us when we became Gluten Free and Dairy Free. Sausage Rolls, Bacon and Cheese Swirls, Chocolate Croissant, Jam Tarts. The eldest especially missed Sausage Rolls. When I cook a dinner such as Sausages and Mash and we have some left over Sausages then the first thing I make with them is these. They are normally placed in lunchboxes (that is they haven’t been spotted in the fridge!)
Ingredients:
Gluten Free Dairy Free Pastry of choice
(Yes I do occasionally use pre-made pastry)
Cooked sausages
1 egg whisked
Chutney, seasoning as required
Gluten free flour (for rolling out pastry)
Method:
Unroll pastry or roll out pastry onto lightly floured work top
Place Sausage onto pastry and cut out enough pastry to roll the sausage up in. make sure you have left an overlap
If you wish to then place seasoning or some chutney onto the inside of the pastry for extra flavour. We love to use Sweet Chilli Sauce or Apple Jam (depending on Sausage flavour)
Roll sausage up and cut slits into top
Egg wash the pastry and secure seam
Place in oven for 20 minutes at 200°C / 400°F / Gas Mark 6. (Please check the cooking settings of the pastry you use).
Additional Notes:
Don’t waste the pastry, remember to re-roll it out and keep making things until it is all used up. I used the last of mine up by making a dairy free cheese and bacon pasty.
