Apple Sauce
In my Health Coach sessions I talk to people about a gluten free lifestyle but also about how food, body, mind interact. It’s important not just to eat gluten free but to think about healing and staying healed. This is a life time condition for us.
Did you know that if you are living a gluten free life it’s important to eat a diet rich in anti-inflammatory foods. These anti-inflammatory foods help ‘heal and seal’ the gut. There are many ways to do this but this recipe for apple sauce is an easy way to start the process. A tablespoon a day will help you and your body heal.
Ingredients:
Apples
Water
Method:
Wash the apples (organic if possible) and dice into small pieces of 1/2 inch or so. Don’t peal the apples as the goodness that we want is in the skin of the apple.
Place the apples in a saucepan and cover with water. We don’t want them simmering in water so about 1/2 of the way covered is great!
Cook at a simmer for approximately 10 - 15 minutes. Top the pan up with water if you require.
You will notice the apple skin changes. The apple sauce is complete when the apple skin becomes shiny.
Take the apple from the saucepan and cool.
Additional Notes:
Optional ingredients include raisins, cinnamon and other fruits.
A tablespoon a day is great and will benefit your health.
Equipment Used:
Saucepan
Chopping board
Knife
Freezer containers.
Freezing Notes:
The apple sauce can be frozen for up to 2 months.
